1001 Albums and counting…
NOTE: This post first appeared on my now defunct personal blog.
I’m a total bastard when it comes to blogging. I have to remind myself, first off, that it’s been five months since I last posted on my personal blog, and that was when things were rough and the pain of losing Lisa struck raw.
Time has passed since then, but the main thing is, I need to write. I’m a freelance copywriter. I’m paid for my words, yet writer’s block and procrastination define my average day. I’ve read of ways to break the cycle.
I’ve read about ways to break the cycle – but the real inspiration for me was when a friend of mine managed to stick to a whole year of posting every day. Her blog’s lost in the mists of time now, but it’s still an inspiring idea.
Whether I’ve got enough interesting things to say to do the same in 2014, well I don’t know. But I do know I need to do something. So from today, I’m doing two things.
- Writer’s block extends to work, and it’s kicking my ass. So, new rule is, I write 3,000 words every day. That can be copy jobs, entries in my own journal, posts on here, or anything. But the main thing is, keep tapping at that keyboard and stop fucking around on Facebook.
- And this is the interesting bit. I’m working from home most days, and that means entertaining myself through the day. So, in a fit of pique, I’ve got myself a copy of “1001 Albums to Listen to Before You Die”, and I’m listening to them in chronological order (Spotify, I love you). And for each album, I shall post my thoughts (I’m not the first btw). I’ve even written a list of those albums that, to me, were shocking by their absence in the list. I’ll sprinkle a few posts about them into the mix as time goes on. I might write paragraphs, I might write a couple of sentences, but they’re all going to get a write up. Starting now…
Hey, I was about to do the same thing you bastard! You stole my dream!
Seriously tho, good luck with the challenge. Hope you’re doing well!
I’m far from the only one. Go for it.
