NOTE: This post first appeared on my now defunct personal blog.
I’m a total bastard when it comes to blogs. I have to remind myself, first off, that it’s been five months since I last posted on my personal blog, and that was when things were rough and the pain of losing Lisa struck raw.
Time has passed since then, and my blog inertia extends beyond these pages to an appalling job maintaining alrighttit.com, although resurrection for that is on the way shortly.
But the main thing is, I need to write. I’m a freelance copywriter. I’m paid for my words, yet writer’s block and procrastination define my average day. I’ve read of ways to break the cycle. My good friend Nikki is eight months through a marvellous job of making sure she posts every day in 2013 – check out her prolific blog.
Whether I’ve got enough interesting things to say to do the same in 2014, well I don’t know. But I do know I need to do something. So from today, I’m doing two things.
1. Writer’s block extends to work, and it’s killing me. So, new rule is, I write 3,000 words every day. That can be copy jobs, entries in my own journal, posts on here or on alrighttit.com, or anything. But the main thing is, keep tapping at that keyboard and stop fucking around on Facebook.
2. And this is the interesting bit. I’m working from home most days, and that means entertaining myself through the day. So, in a fit of pique, I’ve got myself a copy of “1001 Albums to Listen to Before You Die”, and I’m listening to them in chronological order (Spotify, I love you). And for each album, I shall post my thoughts (I’m not the first btw). I might write paragraphs, I might write a couple of sentences, but they’re all going to get a write up. Starting now…
