This page explains what www.1001albums.co.uk does with data about you. It is written to meet the UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.

Who is responsible

This site is operated by Centraserve Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, which is the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law. You can reach us through the contact form, which is the quickest way to get a reply and the right route for any request about your data.

What we collect

  • Server logs. Our web server records your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser's user-agent string and the referring page. These logs exist to keep the site running and to detect abuse. They are kept for up to 30 days and then deleted. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website.
  • Contact form submissions. If you use the contact form we receive the name, email address and message you type in, plus the time of submission and your IP address. We use them only to read and reply to your message. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries. Messages are deleted once the matter is closed, and in any event within 12 months.
  • Search terms. Words you type into the site search are processed to produce results. They are not stored separately from the server logs described above.

We do not ask for, and have no use for, special category data. There are no user accounts, no newsletter, and nothing on this site is sold or made available to data brokers.

Affiliate links

Some pages link to Amazon so you can find the record being discussed. These are affiliate links: we are a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme, and we earn a small commission on qualifying purchases made through them. This costs you nothing extra, and it does not influence what we write — an album is not reviewed more kindly because it happens to be in stock.

Following such a link takes you to amazon.co.uk, which is a separate company with its own privacy policy and its own cookies. Amazon will typically set a cookie recording that you arrived from this site, so that any resulting purchase is attributed to us. We never see your order, your payment details, or what you bought — only anonymous, aggregated commission totals. Amazon's policy is at amazon.co.uk privacy notice.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site sets no cookies of its own, and runs no advertising network, analytics tag, tag manager or social media pixel. We do not profile you across sites. The only third-party cookies you may encounter as a result of visiting are Cloudflare's strictly necessary security cookie, and — if you choose to follow an affiliate link — Amazon's own cookies, set on Amazon's site rather than this one.

Two third parties are involved in delivering the site and may set strictly necessary cookies or process technical data in the course of doing so:

  • Cloudflare sits in front of the site to serve it quickly and to absorb malicious traffic. It may set a strictly necessary security cookie and processes your IP address for that purpose.
  • Our hosting provider processes the server logs described above on our behalf, under a contract that restricts what they may do with them.

Strictly necessary cookies do not require your consent. If we ever introduce advertising or analytics, this page will be updated first and consent will be requested before any such cookie is set. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Pages may link out to other websites. Once you follow such a link you are on someone else's site, governed by their privacy policy, not this one.

Sharing and international transfers

We do not sell your data and we do not share it with anyone beyond the service providers named above, who act as our processors. Where any processing takes place outside the UK, it relies on the UK's adequacy regulations or on standard contractual clauses with the UK addendum.

Your rights

You have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. Use the contact form and we will respond within one month. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, administrative areas are password protected, and submissions are stored on servers we control. No transmission over the internet is ever completely secure, but we take reasonable technical measures to protect what we hold.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data about them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will appear here with a new date at the top. Please check back occasionally.
