23. The Dave Brubeck Quartet – Time Out

Brubeck-Time-OutI wouldn’t go so far as to say that I’m sort of getting the point of jazz just yet, but this one wasn’t as tough as it could have been. Maybe it’s the easy familiarity of “Take Five” or the experimental fun they’re clearly having on “Blue Rondo à La Turk” but it all feels welcoming, with that mix of piano, bass and cymbal that makes you want to reach for a Martini and laze back in the hotel lobby. It’s one of the most popular jazz albums of all time, and it’s certainly a cheerful experience.
